I swear... I couldn't ask for a better roster of clients. Take a look at what my boy, Travis Daniels (he recently re-signed with the Kansas City Chiefs this week), had to say about his journey back to the NFL and how I had a hand in helping him get there...
What up... this is Travis Daniels. I was recently signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as their cornerback and I just wanna take a moment to thank my agent, Albert Elias, for doing what he does to get me where I'm at today.
You know, I'm in the business of playing football and trying to make the best living I can for myself, my family and everybody else I have around me, and that's why I chose Albert to be my agent. He's had guys who have been drafted in a number of different rounds - as high as a second rounder - and he works just as hard for the guys who have been free agents or had been cut from three of four teams as he would his big money clients. That right there says a lot about a person when they're willing to take their time, effort and energy to do a service for you when you're not even making any money. He does it for free outta the kindness of his heart, because he has a love for people like that.
Back in March, I signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. I was just finishing up a four-year contract with Miami and ended up being traded in my last year to Cleveland. So to make a long story short... after the Cleveland season was over, I was a free agent and ended up signing with Kansas City. I came to KC because I felt that I would have a tremendous opportunity to do some great things there and be a part of a winning team. But when it came down to final roster cuts, I didn't make the team. I was back to square one.
A lot of times, when players get in a situation like I was in, their agents start to prove what's really important to them: making quick dollars. But with Albert, that's not the way he operates. He brought me down to Dallas to work out with some of his trainers and stay in shape, because he knew that I had what it takes to get back with another team. Even though I wasn't making him any money, he was still there to help me keep my spirits up and my skills sharp.
It's like... Albert is more than just my agent... he's more than just a guy who handles my contracts... he's like family. We just met each other when I was 21 years old, but he's instantly begun to feel like an old cousin who I grew up in the house with. He's just loyal like that. He's someone I can't thank enough for everything he's done for my family and I.
So I'm back now! I'm with the Chiefs and I'm fixin' to do the thing! The Hawk is out the cage!
Travis can be one of the best corners to play this game, because he approaches things fearlessly as he tries to make plays and create turnovers, instead of just going out there and trying to not to mess up - he's simply not afraid to fail. With an attitude like that, he'll be n this business for a looooooong time. He's smart, intelligent, unselfish and a team player.
You may not know this if you're not a Tigers fan, but Travis is responsible for one of the greatest quotes in LSU football history. During his freshman year, he was asked by LSU coach Nick Saban to sacrifice his red shirt year - which possibly cost him millions in the NFL draft 3 years later - and play in the second half of the SEC Championship game against number one ranked Tennessee (a game which LSU won).
"Coach, I play for the letters on the side of my helmet, not those on the back of my jersey."
That's Travis for ya ;-)
Like all Elias Sports Management clients, Travis is more than a client, he's a brother and a friend, and i love him very much.
Oh... AND YES! Travis Daniels, "THE HAWK," is out the cage!!! =)
