NFL Hits Allen Lazard's Bank Account for Illegal Hit on Reed Blankenship

An illegal blindside block costed Allen Lazard 15 yards during the Week 6 win over Philadelphia, and the New York Jets' receiver is still paying the price for his infraction.

The National Football League has subsequently imposed a $16,391 fine on Lazard according to a report confirmed by ESPN's Rich Cimini.

The costly play unfolded on a 2nd-and-8 from the Philadelphia 34-yard line midway through the third quarter. Quarterback Zach Wilson hooked up with Garrett Wilson for a 25-yard gain down to the 9-yard line, but Lazard was flagged for illegally hitting Eagles' safety Reed Blankenship at the 15. 

Shaken up by the blindside block from Lazard, Blankenship left the game and never returned. Meanwhile, instead of facing a 1st-and-goal from the 9, the penalty pushed the Jets back to the Eagles' 49-yard line and led to a punt three snaps later. Gang Green was trailing, 14-9, at the time of the untimely penalty.

Lazard was fairly quiet in the passing game against the Eagles. The off-season free-agent addition was targeted on three passes and made one eight-yard reception in the 20-14 triumph. Through his first six games in Green & White, the former Green Bay Packer ranks third on the team in both receptions (14) and receiving yards (210).

Lazard is not the first Jets' receiver to lose money as a result of an on-field transgression this year. Veteran Randall Cobb received a $13,889 fine for his blindside block in the preseason finale against the New York Giants.
