Tigers' Reese Olson has received no support despite brilliant 2024 start

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Reese Olson has had an awesome start to the 2024 season. He's also had a terrible start to the 2024 season.

Olson has been living in a strange dichotomy, where he's pitched terrifically but his team hasn't given him any run support.

To make matters worse, he had to leave Monday night's game against the Kansas City Royals due to a screamer that came back at him over 101 mph and nailed him in the left hip.

Olson wanted to continue, but the Tigers pulled him out of an abundance of caution. Unfortunately, it was the most 2024 Reese Olson thing to happen to him so far this season.

If there's any good news for Olson it's that he said after the game that he's not expecting to miss any playing time, but what a bummer this 2024 season has been.

Despite pitching as one of the best players in MLB, he has a 0-5 record and now a hip contusion.

Olson's ERA of 2.16 is ninth best in all of baseball, slightly behind Detroit ace Tarik Skubal's 1.80. Skubal's WHIP is 0.78, which is second-best in all of baseball. Olson is not all that far behind in that category either, though, with a WHIP of 1.06.

The point?

Skubal is Detroit's best overall player and he's easily in the hunt to be a Cy Young award winner this year. His win-loss record is 6-0.

Olson is not that far off Skubal's pace himself, but he's 0-5 and never seems to get the run support he deserves.

Sometimes that's baseball, but what a brilliant, yet rough, season it has been for Olson.
