What Would Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira Look Like?
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

There have been rumors swirling that Jon Jones could be involved in a mammoth fight with Alex Pereira. It would fulfill the prophecy Pereira laid out, with the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion hinting at a move to heavyweight.

It would also draw plenty of eyeballs, as Pereira has gained popularity in the UFC. With his vicious first-round knockout of Jamahal Hill at UFC 300, there’s reason to believe he’d be formidable competition for Jones.

However, the UFC must approve the bout between the two superstars. With Jon “Bones” Jones honored by the offer, it seems the fight could happen. With that, how would both fighters stack up against each other?

Looking At Alex Pereira

Alex Pereira (10-2) has already made a massive impact in the UFC. As mentioned earlier, he’s the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and defeated big names like Israel Adensanya. “Poatan” is proving himself to be one of UFC’s rising stars, both with his fighting and personality.

That makes him stand out, considering he’s an intelligent defensive fighter. Pereira doesn’t like getting too aggressive in a fight. Instead, he waits for his opponent to strike first before countering. But he isn’t your average defensive fighter.

Instead, he knows where to strike his opponents. That’s how he put Jamahal Hill to sleep, letting “Sweet Dreams” open himself up. Compared to Hill, Jon Jones has more weapons in his fighting arsenal, which will complicate matters for “Poatan.” However, a fighter that can beat Sean Strickland and Israel Adensanya can do anything.

But What About Jon Jones?

The one thing that makes Jon Jones (27-1, 1 NC) dangerous (and arguably the best UFC fighter ever) is his versatility. There are many ways that Jones can defeat his foes handily. Take your pick of how the Albuquerque native can beat his opponents.

Want to watch Jones make his opponent tap? He’s done that seven times in his MMA career. What about knocking out his foes by punching them into the ground? He’s done that 10 times. “Bones” doesn’t put too much thought into his fighting; he acts accordingly and uses power and technique to demolish his foes.

If the fight between Pereira and Jones goes through, it will be the biggest test yet for “Poatan.” Although “Bones” already has a date for his return, it doesn’t hurt to wonder what Pereira can do in a potential fight. He might’ve not faced a fighter of Jones’s stature in the UFC. However, that’s what they said when he went up against Adensanya for the UFC Middleweight belt on November 12, 2022. You can probably guess what happened after that.
