Drew McIntyre is happy with the terms of his new WWE contract.

With his contract running down, McIntyre finally put pen to paper on a new deal that was announced last month. Though there was speculation about his future during the contract process, McIntyre was never going to leave WWE. McIntyre said he was just in a place where he had to get things right for his family.

In a new interview, the Daily Mail asked McIntyre what was important to him about his new WWE deal.

“Being happy,” McIntyre responded. “At this point of my life and career all that matters is I’m happy and I can get time with my family that I’ve not had for 20 years.”

McIntyre likes the increased creative freedom talent have been given under the Paul “Triple H” Levesque regime. It’s allowed McIntyre to show what he can do, but he knows there will always be ups and downs when it comes to creative.

“When it comes to creative, I can only control the controllable. As we’ve seen, almost for the past couple of years, there’s been a lot more leeway given to talent, a lot more collaboration,” McIntyre said. “It’s been awesome, as you can see across the board. A lot of people breaking out and an opportunity for myself to show what I can truly do. I know with that it’s always going to be a case of roll with the punches, peaks and valleys, but there’s more to it than just that.

“We’ll see what the future holds, I just know that I’m in my prime and Drew McIntyre is not going to stop wrestling.”

The new contract that McIntyre signed is a three-year deal.

McIntyre is out of action with an elbow injury at the moment, but he’s remained on television and part of WWE storylines. WWE has set up both Damian Priest and CM Punk as future opponents for McIntyre. There was a segment on Raw this week where Priest agreed to give McIntyre a World Heavyweight Championship shot once he’s cleared to compete.

At WrestleMania 40, McIntyre briefly held the World Heavyweight Championship after winning it from Seth Rollins. Priest then cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on McIntyre to become the new champion. The story was that McIntyre allowed his obsession with mocking Punk to cost him the title.

WWE’s Clash at the Castle PLE is being held in McIntyre’s home country of Scotland next month (Saturday, June 15).
